A memorial is not just a marker erected over a grave to remind us of the name of the deceased, it is a lasting symbol of remembrance, a tribute to a life now ended and perhaps a final gift to someone dearly loved. A memorial provides us with a place to visit, lay flowers and reflect. When you have been recently bereaved, it can be difficult to decide how best to commemorate a passing in the most fitting and personal way. At the time of making the arrangements for a funeral, it is not always easy or necessary to determine what your future memorial requirements will be.

In the case of existing memorials, the headstone will normally need to be removed from the grave prior to the funeral. When a burial has taken place it can take some months, depending on the condition of the ground, before the grave will be ready to take a memorial. During this period of settlement, you can take the opportunity to carefully consider your requirements. You can then discuss your wishes with us, either in person, by phone or in writing and we will provide you with a written estimate with no obligation. This will detail the cost of the new memorial or renovation, the cost of the inscription and will also show any cemetery or church fees applicable.

If you choose to proceed with any estimate for a new memorial, the inscription layout and design will be sketched by our stonemason and sent for you to check thoroughly and approve. Each cemetery and churchyard has a set of regulations that must be complied with in relation to the material, design and size of the memorial. We will advise you of the current regulations and assist you with choosing a permitted design. We then arrange for all relevant permit forms to be completed and submitted to the appropriate authority.
