When Death Occurs In Hospital
If a death occurs in hospital the staff will usually contact the next of kin. The hospital will keep the deceased in the hospital mortuary until arrangements have been made to take the deceased into either the care of the funeral directors or the care of the Coroner's.
The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Death, and a Formal Notice stating that the Medical Certificate of Death has been signed. The hospital staff usually arrange for the nearest relative to collect the deceased's possessions. You can also contact the hospital to make an appointment to collect the Medical Certificate.
Once the Medical Certificate of Death has been issued, the death can be registered and then the funeral director of your choice should be contacted. An appointment to begin the funeral arrangements can then be made.
