Deaths that have taken place within England & Wales should be registered within 5 days of the event occurring. Howeverif the death is refered to the coroner the death cannot be registered until they have completed any investigation that has been deemed necessary.

Below is some information on what is required and what to expect when registering a death.
Who Can Register A Death
A close relative of the deceased
A person present at the death.
The person responsible for making the funeral arrangements (not the funeral director)
Documents Required For Registering a Death
Medical certificate of death.
Date & place of death
Full name of deceased (maiden name if applicable)
If married, full name and occupation of surviving spouse.
Date & place of birth
Occupation & home address
Medical card (if available) or birth certificate or passport (if available)
What The Registrar Will Give You
A 'Green' certificate for burial or cremation.
Form BD8, must be completed if the deceased was in receipt of benefits of any kind from the Department of Social Security.
Copies of The Certified Entry Into The Register.
